Jazz Minor
The minor in jazz is designed for students from any degree program on campus, including music majors, who want to develop and improve their knowledge and skills in instrumental jazz.
This 21-credit program draws from the entire array of the jazz offerings in the School of Music including jazz performing ensembles, history, theory, jazz techniques, and applied lessons. Some students choose to add a jazz minor as a balancing influence to coursework in their majors, while others relate jazz studies directly to their major (for example, a history major might write their thesis on jazz music in America in the 1920’s).
Jazz Studies minors are not permitted to declare the Jazz Specialization C within the Music Education Major. Departmental audition requirements apply to this minor.
