The UNI Community Music School is here to help you find the music program that’s right for you or your family.
Whether you are brand new to music or continuing your musical journey, we offer welcoming and supportive opportunities for learners of all ages and experience levels. You do not have to be a University of Northern Iowa student to participate!
Our programs are taught by professional musicians and instructors, as well as supervised students studying music at the University of Northern Iowa.
Music for Adults
Our adult programs are designed to be accessible, enjoyable, and flexible—whether you’re learning music for the first time or returning after many years.
- Group Piano Class for Adults - Group class for beginning or returning piano students
- CommUNI·Horn (Community Horn Choir) - An ensemble for all horn enthusiasts at any age and ability
- Music Lessons - Lessons for a variety of instruments are offered for beginning to advanced students
- New Horizons Band - The band welcomes wind, brass, and percussion instrumentalists ages 50 and older
Music for Kids and Teens
Our children’s programs focus on building musical skills, confidence, creativity, and a lifelong love of music in a fun and supportive environment.
- Camp Musicmania - One week fine arts camp for 1st - 9th graders
- Children's Choir - Non-auditioned choral program for students in grades 3 through 9
- CommUNI·Horn (Community Horn Choir) - An ensemble for all horn enthusiasts at any age and ability
- Music Lessons - Lessons for a variety of instruments are offered for beginning to advanced students
- Music for Little Mozarts - A fun beginning piano and music class for children ages 4 - 7

Our teachers, directors, and volunteers include UNI students, faculty, staff, alumni, and professional musicians and teachers in the community. CMS teachers benefit from having the opportunity to work in a variety of teaching environments and enjoy interacting with and instructing members of differing populations in the Cedar Valley.
