Who Should Join?

CommUNI·Horn is designed for anyone who loves playing the horn—no UNI affiliation required.
You’ll feel right at home if you are:
- An adult or retiree looking to return to the horn after time away
- A community musician seeking a friendly ensemble and artistic outlet
- A high school or college‑age player wanting additional ensemble experience
- An educator or amateur musician who enjoys making music in a relaxed, collaborative setting
- A UNI student interested in connecting with the wider musical community
All experience levels are welcome. Whether you play confidently or are rebuilding fundamentals, CommUNI·Horn meets you where you are.

- Tuition is $50 per semester
- New Horizons Members and CMS Lesson students receive a 10% discount on choir tuition
- Horn Choir Members receive a 20% discount on lesson tuition through CMS
- 10% discount available for paying for the whole academic year
- Free admission to UNI Horn Day ($25)
- Financial Aid is available. Complete the application before registering.

Fall Rehearsals (September 5 - December 12)
Rehearsals meet from 10:00 am -11:30 am at the University of Northern Iowa

Spring
Spring Rehearsals (February 6 - May 8)

Meet Your Director
Maddy Tarantelli is Assistant Professor of Instruction in Horn at the University of Northern Iowa. Tarantelli has performed extensively with Utah Symphony and has performed with many of the orchestras in Iowa, Utah/Idaho, and Fountain City Brass Band. They held positions at Interlochen Arts Camp and Utah Valley University.
Assistant Student Director
Originally from Bettendorf, IA, Patrick Mooney is a third-year undergraduate student at the University of Northern Iowa studying instrumental music education and horn performance with Assistant Professor of Instruction in Horn, Dr. Maddy Tarantelli.
Rehearsal Participation
- All members are expected to attend regular rehearsals, dress rehearsals, and participate in performances.
- Members can miss up to two absences per semester, not including a dress rehearsal.
- Attendance at dress rehearsals is mandatory for all members.
- Rehearsal absences should be reported to communi.horn@uni.edu.
Parking is available in the visitor's lot adjacent to the Gallagher Bluedorn. Parking may be limited on days where events are scheduled for the Gallagher Bluedorn or UNI School of Music.
