The University of Nrothern Iowa Community School has been committed to providing high quality music education opportunities for the Cedar Valley community since 2006.

As an intregal part of the Cedar Valley and UNI Community, the Community Music School embraces a diverse and inclusive learning environment with exceptional programing where everyone is welcome regardless of ability, age, or financial means.

Teachers and Directors include UNI students, faculty, staff, alumni, and professional musicians and teaching in the community.

The Community Music School is proud to be part of the University of Northern Iowa School of Music, which is regarded as one of the finest music programs in the Midwest, and is accredited by the National Association of Schools of Music. The UNI School of Music has an established reputation as a regionally and nationally renowned source of quality music education and performances.

  • All CMS teachers, directors, and staff that work students and participants under the age of 18 are required to successfully pass a criminal background check annually.

The Community Music School hires professional musicians and educators to teach a variety of instruments and classes.

Teach Individual & Group Lessons

These positions can include teaching individual lessons and group lessons for the New Horizons Band.

 

  • Clarinet Teacher
  • Percussion Teacher

If you are a UNI student interested in teaching at the UNI Community Music School, complete the online application. Applied teachers will be contacted in regards to student applications.

  • Individual Lessons are as scheduled
  • New Horizons teachers, 8:00 - 8:50 am Tues/Thurs during school year

At Camp Music Mania, campers (1st-9th grade) spend five amazing days engaging in fun activities exploring music, drama, and art. A willingness to learn, be creative, and general silliness is encouraged.


  • Group Leaders (multiple positions)
    • Group leaders are in charge of a group of kids (usually between 15-20)
    • Groups are divided by grade, rising 1st-9th graders
    • Group leaders are responsible for taking their group to each activity every day, participating, and "in general" assisting the teachers and making sure the kids are behaving responsibly.
    • Ideal candidates include music and education majors.
  • Teachers
    • Ideal candidates will have teaching experience with students in elementary and middle school.
    • Plan age appropriate activities for students in grades 1-9.
