Attendance Policies

ATTENDANCE AND MAKE UP POLICY

Lessons

Students are expected to attend lessons and rehearsals on a regular basis. Teachers are not required to make-up lessons missed or cancelled by the student.  Lessons that have to be rescheduled by the teacher will be made up at an agreed upon day and time.

General Lesson Studio Policy

Children's Choir

It is great to see our Children's Choir singers each week, and we miss them when they are absent. We appreciate you sending an email to childrenschoir@uni.edu if your singer will not be at rehearsal for any reason.

ALL IN-PERSON CMS ACTIVITIES ARE CANCELED IF THE UNIVERSITY IS CLOSED DUE TO WEATHER.

Lessons may be offered virtually in the case of campus closure, and all ensemble rehearsals will be canceled. However, if the public/private schools are closed, and UNI remains open, lessons and rehearsals may still take place.  Lesson students should check with your teacher to determine if he/she will be teaching as usual, virtually, or to schedule a make-up lesson.

STUDENT DROP OFF/ PICK UP

Each parent or guardian is responsible to deliver their children under the age of 18 to the appropriate UNI Community Music School (CMS) instructor and pick-up the student(s) at the appropriate times. Students under the age of 18 should not be left unsupervised within the School of Music buildings or outside the grounds for any reason at any time. The UNI Community Music School, CMS teachers or the UNI School of Music will not assume responsibility for your child should an accident or other incident occur while they are unattended. Ongoing safety is a high priority at UNI and we appreciate your assistance in ensuring a safe environment for all.

Community Music School Instructors and Directors

Instructors and directors of Community Outreach Programs have undergone criminal background checks and are supervised by the University of Northern Iowa School of Music and their respective program directors. Payment for Community Outreach Programs should be registered and paid for through their respective program. This is the only way to ensure that you are taking lessons with a qualified instructor who has been approved by the University of Northern Iowa School of Music. Please note that teaching privately within UNI School of Music facilities, outside a UNI Community Outreach Program violates university policy.

If you have questions about program policies or procedures, please contact the School of Music at 319-273-2311.
