Maddy Tarantelli is Assistant Professor of Instruction in Horn at the University of Northern Iowa. Tarantelli has performed extensively with Utah Symphony and has performed with many of the orchestras in Iowa, Utah/Idaho, and Fountain City Brass Band. They held positions at Interlochen Arts Camp and Utah Valley University.
Maddy currently serves as president of the Lawrence Graduate Bayreuth Tuben Quintet and has performed/ recorded in the US and Canada with the tubens. Tarantelli has also performed with Colorado Mahlerfest since 2024. Tarantelli is a founding member of Trilogy Brass with Dr. JoDee Davis (UMKC) and Dr. Jennifer Oliverio (Missouri Western SU). Trilogy has performed recitals across the Midwest and at the International Women’s Brass Conferences. Maddy is also part of the founding cohort of the Coalition of Musicians for Ethical Change.
Maddy has contributed to the International Horn Society’s publication The Horn Call, International Symposiums, and regional workshops. They received grants from the American Scandinavian Foundation and UMKC Women's Council to pursue independent study in Norway. Maddy has served on the board of directors for Audition Mode Horn Seminar (alum 2016) alongside Denise Tryon and Karl Pituch from 2017-2024. Maddy spent their summers teaching theory and performing with faculty ensembles at Interlochen Arts Camp from 2015-2017. They aged out of DCI in 2011 playing mellophone with the Glassmen Drum & Bugle Corps.
In Iowa, Maddy has continued the UNI tradition of horn choir by revamping the Community Horn Choir. Members include UNI alumni, current students, high school students, community members, and professional hornists in Iowa where anyone is welcome to participate.
Tarantelli’s pedagogical influences include formal study with Marty Hackleman, Sam Pilafian, and Kirsten Bendixen-Mahoney. Additional influences include Denise Tryon, Julie Landsman, and Frøydis Ree Wekre.
