Suzuki Department Chair of Orchestral Studies and Chamber Music; Suzuki instructor-viola

John Chiles began his collegiate studies in viola at Virginia Commonwealth University under Dr. Stephen Schmidt, continued his graduate viola studies under Dr. Julia Bullard at the University of Northern Iowa, and is currently a master's student of Conducting at UNI. During his time at UNI, Mr. Chiles served as principal violist and concertmaster of the UNI Symphony Orchestra and performed with the Waterloo-Cedar Falls Symphony Orchestra. John is also the conductor of the Northern Iowa Youth Orchestra and the assistant conductor of the UNI Symphony Orchestra.

In addition to teaching private and group violin and viola lessons with the Suzuki School, John also leads the school's chamber music efforts for youth and adults as the head of the new Verismo program and the Cedar Falls Chamber Orchestra. Mr. Chiles is also passionate about community outreach through the arts; as of 2015, John has established a partnership between the Suzuki School and Nazareth Lutheran Church in Cedar Falls for the purpose of community involvement and expansion of the Suzuki School.
