Caroline Francis joined the UNI School of Music staff in 2007.
A lifelong musician with a career in arts administration, Caroline earned her Bachelor of Music in Music Business/Management from Berklee College of Music, where she studied vocal technique, arts management and songwriting. While at Berklee, Caroline founded the non-profit organization Memory Music, hosting performances and fundraising events benefiting AmFAR, RAINN, Save the Music, Make-A-Wish Foundation and more.
Caroline began her arts administration career at the Waterloo Center for the Arts where she served on staff at the center from 1998-1999. She joined the staff of Berklee College admissions office in 2002, overseeing recruitment, campus tours and summer programs. Her work with the Berklee in LA summer program led her to California in 2004, where she acted as independent concert promoter, helping to create and manage special event concerts and music festivals. Caroline returned to Iowa in 2005 and served as marketing and operations manager of Pandora's Box, a hobby and game shop she co-owned with her sister in Waterloo. In the two years under Caroline's ownership, Pandora's Box was selected as an Iowa Targeted Small Business and was awarded an Iowa Department of Economic Development grant.
As an artist, Caroline has performed at music festivals and performance halls throughout the United States, including the San Francisco Pride Festival, Cedar Valley PrideFest, Boston's Club Passim, and San Diego's esteemed folk venue Twiggs. In 2001, she was awarded the Northern California Songwriter's Association Song of the Year award for a duet co-written with Champ Records recording artist Alicia Champion. Caroline has released two independent albums and continues to perform locally.
In addition to her work at UNI, Caroline is owner and artist at Echo Jewelry + Gifts. She enjoys tabletop and card games, road trips and playing the piano in her free time.
