Kylie Little

Kylie Little is a passionate violist, chamber musician and educator currently based in Iowa City. As a dedicated teacher of violists and violinists of all ages, her pedagogical method emphasizes the shared human experience through musical collaboration, connection and healthy approaches to music-making supported by a strong technical foundation. Kylie is excited to start her role as Assistant  Adjunct Professor of Instruction in Viola at the University of Northern Iowa in the fall of 2026. She also teaches at the Marion Music Academy in Marion, Iowa and has her own viola/violin studio. 

A dedicated chamber musician, Kylie has performed on the Burlington Lunchtime Chamber Music Series, a sextet concert presented by the Iowa City Philharmonic, and filled in as violist for the Iowa-based Oak Quartet, in addition to being a member of several string quartets over the past ten years. Both chamber and orchestral engagements have allowed Kylie to perform across the United States, in Europe and in Asia. Recent notable performances include a string quartet program at the  Dvorak Birth House Museum in Nelahozeves, Czech Republic and a new music ensemble performance at the Princess Galyani Vadhana Institute of Music in Bangkok, Thailand.  

As an inaugural member of the University of Iowa’s Dunn Graduate String Quartet, Kylie helped develop a music-therapy informed program intended for those living with memory loss and their caregivers. Kylie presented on this project with Iowa faculty and the other members of the Dunn Quartet at the American Music Therapy Association Midwest Regional Conference in Spring 2025. As a strong proponent of musical connections, she hopes to continue this work in the future.  

An active performer in the community, Kylie holds positions as principal violist of the Southeast Iowa Symphony Orchestra and section violist in the Waterloo-Cedar Falls Symphony while actively subbing with other local orchestras. 

Kylie completed her doctoral coursework at the University of Iowa under the tutelage of Christine Rutledge. Her thesis explores the applications of Paul Hindemith’s Craft of Musical Composition to his earlier compositions for the viola. Kylie earned her Masters of Music from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign while studying with Liz Freivogel of the Jupiter String Quartet and her Bachelors of Music from Northern Illinois University with Anthony Devroye of the  Avalon String Quartet. In her free time, Kylie enjoys reading, cooking, and exploring new places.
