Jaime Webb

Jaime Webb, soprano, is Assistant Professor of Instruction in Voice at the University of Northern Iowa. Praised for her “clarity and controlled power” and for “nuances, high notes, and scales” that create “emotional moments that underscore the drama” (Periódico Noroeste), she has captivated audiences across the United States and internationally. She has appeared at distinguished venues including Carnegie Hall, Salle Gaveau, and the Teatro Ángela Peralta, and has performed with companies and festivals such as Opera Omaha, Cedar Rapids Opera, Annapolis Opera, Charlottesville Opera, Escenia Ensamble, the International Summer Opera Festival of Morelia, Opera at Florham, AIMS in Graz, and the Hawaiʻi Performing Arts Festival.

Webb’s operatic repertoire reflects a wide range of lyric coloratura roles, demonstrating both comedic agility and lyrical depth. Her roles include Violetta (La traviata), Lucia (Lucia di Lammermoor), Rosina (Il barbiere di Siviglia), Norina (Don Pasquale), Musetta (La bohème), Hanna Glawari (Die lustige Witwe), Micaëla (Carmen), Mavis (The Fantastic Mr. Fox), and Susanna (Le nozze di Figaro). Her work also extends into musical theatre, with repertoire including Christine Daaé (The Phantom of the Opera), Marian (The Music Man), Philia (A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum), Baroness Elsa (The Sound of Music), and Jane Doe (Ride the Cyclone). A champion of new work, Webb has premiered dozens of compositions and collaborated extensively with living composers including Tobias Picker, Lori Laitman, Stacy Garrop, and Vivian Fung. 

As a committed artist-educator, Webb’s teaching emphasizes healthy vocal production across languages and repertoire, with particular attention to the cultivation of individual artistic identity and sustainable technique rooted in practical voice science. Prior to UNI, she served on the voice faculty at Luther College, where she taught Applied Voice, Class Voice, and Opera Scenes, and contributed to campus leadership and several community engagement initiatives. Webb has held prominent teaching artist positions with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra and Opera Omaha, experiences that continue to inform her student-centered approach. An active adjudicator, Webb has served for the National Association of Teachers of Singing Student Auditions Semi Finals, the Iowa High School Musical Theater Awards and the Dorian Vocal Festival. 

Webb is Founder and Artistic Director of QueerPOPERA, an organization dedicated to expanding LGBTQ+ representation in opera, particularly in the Midwest, and is co-librettist of A Bridge Between, a chamber opera in development which navigates questions of faith, identity, family, and belonging. A sought-after panelist and lecturer-recitalist, she has presented at conferences including Opera America’s Teaching Artist Network, Iowa Musicology Day, the Omaha Conservatory of Music & Wellness Festival, and the Georgia Women and Girls Conference. Her scholarship and public engagement focus on gender, sexuality, equity, and inclusion within the opera industry, exploring how storytelling and artistic practice can foster greater representation and connection.

​Webb is a former Dr. Carl S. Hoveland Opera Fellow at the University of Georgia Opera Theater and a former Studio Artist with Canto Vocal Programs. She currently studies with internationally renowned soprano and pedagogue Julia Faulkner, Director of Vocal Studies at the Ryan Opera Center at the Lyric Opera of Chicago.
