Renowned San Francisco Opera soprano, Nicolle Foland, will headline the UNI School of Music's 33rd annual Scholarship Benefit Concert.
The concert is scheduled for Friday, Sept. 26, at the Gallagher Bluedorn Performing Arts Center in Cedar Falls. Ms. Foland is a Des Moines native and a graduate of the University of Northern Iowa.
The annual Scholarship Benefit Concert raises money for exceptionally talented music students, and for students in need of scholarship funding to continue their music education. The annual concert will also feature UNI faculty artists, who will perform with Foland. This year's event carries the theme, 'County Fair.'
The Northern Iowa Wind Symphony will also perform, as well as Jazz Band One, and the Northern Iowa Symphony Orchestra with combined UNI Choirs.
Pre-Show music will be performed by Amanda McCandless and the UNI Clarinet Studio, with Intermission music from the UNI Suzuki School.
After the concert, the night of music will continue in the lobby of the GBPAC. Concert goers will enjoy champagne and hors d'oeuvres, with music from the Hands of Time Quartet and UNI faculty musicians performing organ music in Jebe Hall.
The San Francisco Chronicle has praised Nicolle Foland as “a singer who boasts a beautiful tone, accurate and clear from a lusty lower register up through the crystalline high notes—an eloquent way with a melodic phrase, and, to top it off, a stage presence both elegant and alluring."
Ms. Foland has also received high acclaim for many of her roles, including La Boheme with the San Francisco Opera and La Traviata with Lyric Opera of Chicago.
All seats are reserved for the September 26, 7:30 p.m. concert. Individual tickets are available in person at the Gallagher-Bluedorn ticket office, or by calling 319-273-4tix or 877-549-SHOW. Tickets are also available online at www.unitix.uni.edu.
