Thursday, March 5 will bring the first Spotlight Series concert of the spring 2020 semester. Conductor and professor Rebecca Burkhardt will lead the Northern Iowa Symphony Orchestra in their first spring concert.
The concert will feature an appearance by the UNI Suzuki School’s Northern Iowa Youth Orchestra, conducted by John Chiles, performing Marilyn Shrude’s La chanson du printemps… with the Northern Iowa Symphony Orchestra.
Another first-half feature will be the world premiere of the piece In the Buried City, I Heard the Wind by Chuanhao Zhang.
The final piece on the concert, and the only piece on the second half, will be a tribute to the 250th anniversary of Beethoven’s birth year. UNI faculty artist Sean Botkin, piano, will join conductor Burkhardt and the Northern Iowa Symphony Orchestra to perform Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 4 in G major, op. 58.
