Gabe Scheid

Assistant Adjunct Professor of Applied Jazz Saxophone

Gabe Scheid is a saxophonist, music producer, audio engineer and educator from Sioux City, IA. He earned his BA in Jazz Studies from University of Northern Iowa ('13) and his MM in Jazz Performance from the University of Northern Colorado ('15). While in school he shared the stage with greats such as Wayne Shorter, Chris Potter, Donny McCaslin, and Christian McBride. Gabe has been in demand for his saxophone, flute, and clarinet skills for various off-Broadway and local musical productions in both Iowa and Colorado. In addition to performing, Gabe is an audio engineer and producer. He is the Production Manager of xBk Live in Des Moines, a 250-capacity venue boasting one of the highest quality live music experiences in the Midwest. Inspired by the current technology available to the modern musician, Gabe built a custom pedalboard optimized for a woodwind player. He uses it in his own trio, Shevelia, amongst other projects where a less traditional role for saxophone is welcome. Currently living in Ames, Gabe regularly collaborates with Iowa musicians locally and abroad, having recently returned from a tour to Japan.
