MASTER OF MUSIC: Major in Jazz Pedagogy
ABOUT THE PROGRAM: Students in the MM Jazz Pedagogy Program receive individualized instruction with our jazz faculty; outstanding performance opportunities; pedagogical coursework and teaching experience with big bands and combos; extensive training in skills including jazz composition, arranging and improvisation, and rhythm section instruments; and comprehensive knowledge of music theory and analysis, and music literature. Recent students in our program have been accepted to prestigious doctoral programs, have had compositions and arrangements premiered by professional performers in the US and abroad, been featured performers on recordings, and have become leaders in jazz performance and teaching in the state of Iowa and throughout the US and beyond.

PROGRAM DETAILS:
This major is offered on the thesis/recital option only, and requires a minimum of 36 semester hours. A minimum of 15 semester hours of 200/6000-level course work is required.
Only graduate courses (course numbers 5000 or above) will apply to a graduate degree, even if the undergraduate course number (4999 or less) is listed. No exceptions will be made.
