Piano Teacher
Madelyn Potter (Piano) remembers being so nervous for her first piano lesson. She was 10 years old, and decided to take lessons from a neighbor lady down the street. She bravely walked inside and sat down at the piano bench… and quickly fell in love with playing piano. She learned that being able to play music is like having a superpower! Using hands, lungs, and feet musicians are able to transform sound into something beautiful that everyone can enjoy. Who wouldn’t want to learn to do that?
Madelyn, originally from the beautiful countryside of the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, grew up in an adventurous family of 8 kids. Her parents fostered in her a love for creativity and learning! At the age of 15 she began her own piano studio, teaching kids from the neighborhood. She attended the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay and received a degree in Psychology and Music because she is passionate about combining scientific research and music performance. During her undergraduate studies, she conducted research on physical techniques that could reduce tension and minimize injuries while playing an instrument. She also won Honors recitals, participated in the MPM Concerto Competition, performed with various ensembles, presented at the NEW Piano Teacher Conference, and was a research and teaching assistant.
Madelyn’s piano students said they like how she pushes them to be better musicians while making piano fun to learn! She believes the best teachers are the best musicians, so she decided to continue challenging herself and developing more musical skills by pursuing her Masters in Piano Performance and Pedagogy at the University of Northern Iowa. She, along with her husband and cat, moved to Iowa in 2024 and are enjoying the local countryside full of corn and more corn!
