Bethany Winget is a senior Flute Performance and Performing Arts Management major and Marketing minor studying under Dr. Hannah Porter Occeña. Originally from a small school in Des Moines, she is passionate about providing music education access to all, especially beginning music students in rural areas and small schools. She loves to play the flute, and she hopes to inspire a love of music and flute in all of her students, no matter their experience level. She thinks that music is for everyone and wants all students to feel supported to pursue their individual musical goals.
She currently performs with the Northern Iowa Symphony Orchestra, Selah Flute-Clarinet Duo, Mississippi Winds Woodwind Quintet, UNI Flute Choir, and Violette Flute Quartet. She is the 2025 UNI Concerto Competition winner and recipient of the Marleta and Charles Matheson Award in the 2026 UNI Emerging Artist Competition. She also recently worked as an equipment intern at the 2026 National Flute Convention in Portland, Oregon and is a National Flute Association member.
When not fluting at UNI, she works as a marketing and public relations intern at the Civic Music Association of Des Moines. She also pursues scholastic achievement as a UNI Presidential Scholar and serves on the UNI Music Student Advisory Board and as a Music Ambassador. She also is an active member of the UNI Sigma Alpha Iota chapter.
